Our Living Wage commitment will see everyone working at Gypcraft receive a minimum hourly wage of £13.85, significantly higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £12.21 per hour.
Gypcraft is based in London, a region where 14.4% of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage – that’s 653,000 jobs. Despite this, Gypcraft has committed to pay the real Living Wage and provide a decent standard of living for everyone.
The real Living Wage is the only UK wage rate independently calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers that wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to nearly half a million people and put £3.5 billion extra into the pockets of low paid workers.
Mark Adams, Director, Gypcraft said: “We are pleased to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the real Living Wage as an accredited employer. At Gypcraft, we believe that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. That’s why we are proud to be part of a growing movement of responsible employers who ensure that our employees earn a wage that reflects the real cost of living. Together with thousands of other accredited organisations, we’ve helped put over £3.5 billion back into the pockets of the lowest paid workers. In today’s economic climate—where the cost of living continues to rise—paying a real Living Wage has never been more critical for workers and their families. Despite the progress we’ve made, millions of workers across the UK are still not earning a real Living Wage. There is more work to be done, and we are committed to playing our part. Thank you to the Living Wage Foundation for their continued leadership in championing fair pay and for recognising our ongoing support through accreditation.”
Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Gypcraft has joined the movement of over 15,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as Burberry, Barclays, Everton Football Club and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Gypcraft, believe that everyone needs to be able to live with dignity and have a decent standard of living.”
