Position: SHEQ Advisor

We are looking for an SHEQ Advisor who has worked in a construction environment. The ideal candidate will have: at least two years experience of a similar position with a Construction Contractor/Subcontractor, NEBOSH; knowledge of OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001accreditations; and, experience in completing internal audits. We are looking for an individual with a positive personality to be able to work with Project Managers to promote company culture in Health & Safety. Oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with operational site staff are essential.

Desirable criteria include: NVQ L5, Lead Auditor, Environmental Certificate, Environmental experience; Being bilingual is a desirable attribute.

Main Scope of Role: Assist the SHEQ Manager in coordinating, supporting and giving advice on all aspects with regards to Health and Safety. Assist in establishing, managing and monitoring standards, processes, communications, training and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with Health and Safety are adhered to.

Role responsibilities can include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated
  • Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health
  • Carry out risk assessments, considering how risks could be reduced
  • Assist in the preparation of regular Integrated Management System reports (IMS) and minutes from IMS meetings and complete internal audits for the IMS
  • Reviewing health and safety policies
  • Review, revise & update: Company quality, environmental and safety documentation, Sub-contractor site specific safety statements / risk and method statement, Induction and other H&S training programmes
  • Assist in preparing health and safety strategies and developing internal policy
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks
  • Compiling statistics
  • Producing presentations in findings
  • Monitoring environmental impacts
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards
  • Review sub-contractors RAMS for compliance to company requirements
  • Assist in carrying out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
  • Make changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation
  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks
  • Keep records of inspection findings and producing reports that suggest improvements
  • Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the company
  • Ensure site induction training, method statements, risk assessments, toolbox talks, safety audits, and other industry specific reports are completed as required
  • Inspect and audit live projects
  • Prepare hand out material for toolbox talk and arrange the procurement of required PPE.
